Meet and Greet
This is a free, 15-20 minute appointment where you can tell me a little bit about yourself, ask me questions you might have, and ensure that we are a good fit.
Intake session
You will need to complete an intake appointment before beginning therapy or coaching sessions. Intake appointments are between 60 and 75 minutes long due to a lot of information gathering. A comprehensive assessment is done that includes family history, past experiences and current struggles. In addition, depending on symptoms, some depression and anxiety assessment tools are completed to establish baseline. If you are under the age of 18, a parent must accompany you to this appointment
Therapy Sessions
All therapy sessions are about 50 minutes long. It is usually recommended to start off 1x a week in the beginning to work on goals, explore patterns and establish rapport. However, this is entirely up to you.
Family Therapy
Family therapy sessions are longer to ensure that everyone has a chance to speak in the family. These sessions are typically between 60 and 70 minutes depending on the family's needs.
Coaching Sessions
Coaching is not therapy but feels like it. The difference with coaching is you are working with specific goals that you would like to accomplish and need structure, organization, accountability and assistance. Coaching focuses on professional development, better self management and it is usually discovery based. Coaching does not explore past trauma, childhood events, family history, etc.
Walk and Talk
When possible our bodies need movement, and walk talk combines the benefits of walking and taking in nature. I have a certification in Forest Therapy but in New York we don't always have access to forests so a park works or meeting in the outdoors where there are paths. As part of expanding my practice I started walk and talk in the spring, summer and fall seasons. This is similar to traditional psychotherapy except the therapy session takes place outside while we walk.. I can meet at a location convenient for the both of us.
